Israeli Forces Raid West Bank Town, Detain 22 Palestinians

(MENAFN) Israeli forces detained dozens of Palestinians during a large-scale military raid in the West Bank on Wednesday, as attacks across the occupied territory intensified, witnesses reported.

Witnesses told media that Israeli military vehicles stormed the town of Dura, south of Hebron, where soldiers searched multiple homes and vandalized their contents.

More than 22 individuals — among them a lawyer — were held and interrogated for several hours inside residences that forces converted into makeshift detention centers, before ultimately being released, witnesses said. As troops withdrew, they discharged stun grenades and tear gas at local residents, leaving several people suffering from temporary asphyxiation, witnesses added.

Videos circulating on social media showed Israeli forces raiding homes and repurposing one as a detention site, while separate footage captured detainees being freed following interrogation.

In a simultaneous incident, a group of Israeli settlers raided the outskirts of Sinjil, north of Ramallah, where they attacked Palestinian property and made off with a flock of sheep, agricultural tractors, and vehicles, witnesses said. Israeli forces provided cover for the settlers throughout the assault, blocking Palestinians from intervening and firing tear gas and stun grenades at residents, according to witness accounts.

The raids unfolded against a backdrop of surging settler violence across the West Bank, encompassing attacks on Palestinian villages, arson, and land seizures.

The occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, has witnessed a sharp escalation in Israeli military operations — including raids, arrests, shootings, and excessive force — alongside mounting settler assaults on Palestinians and their property.

Since October 2023, combined Israeli military and settler attacks have killed 1,155 Palestinians, wounded approximately 11,750, and resulted in the arrest of nearly 22,000 others, according to official Palestinian figures.
