China Calls on Pakistan to Strengthen Mediation Role on Hormuz Issues

(MENAFN) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged Pakistan to step up its mediation efforts in regional diplomacy and help contribute to the “proper” handling of issues surrounding access to the Strait of Hormuz, according to a media outlet.

Wang made the remarks during a phone call on Tuesday with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, as Islamabad continues its efforts to facilitate a second round of direct talks between Washington and Tehran.

The diplomatic exchange comes ahead of US President Donald Trump’s planned visit to Beijing, where discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to include the ongoing Middle East conflict alongside broader bilateral issues.

According to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, both sides emphasized the need to sustain a “durable” ceasefire between the United States and Iran and to ensure the continued free flow of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement also noted that the two ministers discussed Pakistan’s ongoing role in encouraging engagement between Washington and Tehran, with the aim of promoting long-term stability in the region.

Wang reportedly expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s “constructive” mediation efforts.

The two sides also reviewed upcoming high-level diplomatic exchanges, events marking the 75th anniversary of Pakistan–China relations, and broader cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
