Market Blast in Northwest Pakistan Kills Nine, Injures Dozens
(MENAFN) According to reports, an explosion tore through a busy marketplace in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday, leaving at least nine people dead and 35 others injured.
A local official told Anadolu that the blast took place in Sarai Naurang town in the Lakki Marwat district. Deputy Commissioner Hamidullah Khan said, “Right now, I am at the hospital, (and) nine bodies had been brought here, so far. At least 35 injured people are also receiving treatment,” adding that rescue efforts were ongoing.
Among those killed were two police officers, according to the same official. Authorities suspect that the explosive device may have been planted inside a loader rickshaw.
The official also noted that around 10 of the injured are in critical condition and have been transferred to hospitals in the nearby Bannu district for further treatment.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Security forces sealed off the area shortly after the explosion and launched an investigation, while emergency teams continued evacuating the wounded to medical facilities.
The region has seen a rise in militant violence in recent years, with attacks increasingly targeting both security personnel and civilians, according to reports.
