Trump Says Iran Truce is Fragile, Criticizes Tehran’s Response
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said Monday that the ceasefire arrangement involving Iran is in a highly unstable condition, while sharply criticizing Tehran’s reaction to recent US diplomatic efforts.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump described the situation as extremely weak and dismissed Iran’s reply to a proposal delivered through Pakistani mediation.
“I would call it the weakest right now, after reading that piece of garbage,” he said, referring to Iran’s response.
He added: “I would say the ceasefire is on massive life support, where the doctor walks in and says, 'Sir, your loved one has approximately a 1% chance of living'.”
Trump further said: “It’s a stupid proposal, and nobody would take it.”
According to his remarks, Iran took several days to respond to what he described as a straightforward diplomatic offer, which he claimed initially included broad commitments related to nuclear activity before being altered.
“They sent us this document that we waited four days for that should have taken 10 minutes to do,” he said. “They guarantee no nuclear weapons for a very long period of time and a couple of other minor things, but they just can't get there.”
“So they agree with us, and then they take it back,” he added, emphasizing that Iran had not explicitly committed to preventing nuclear weapons development.
Despite his criticism, Trump said he still believes a diplomatic path remains possible, stating: “I think it's very possible.”
He also referred to messages he claimed were relayed by Iranian officials regarding nuclear materials following earlier strikes, saying Iran had mentioned “nuclear dust,” a term he used to describe residual nuclear material after attacks.
Trump additionally asserted that sites targeted in a previous US-Israeli military campaign against Iran in June 2025 were “so obliterated” that recovering materials from them would be extremely difficult.
