Palestinian Man Dies in Israeli Custody After West Bank Shooting

(MENAFN) A Palestinian man has died in an Israeli hospital from injuries sustained after being shot by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank prior to his detention, according to Palestinian prisoner advocacy organizations.

The Palestinian Prisoner Society and the Commission of Detainees’ Affairs said in a joint statement that 29-year-old Qusai Ibrahim Ali Rayyan died at Beilinson Hospital in Israel.

The groups said Rayyan, a father of one from the town of Qarawat Bani Hassan near Salfit in the northern West Bank, was arrested by Israeli forces on April 15. Israeli authorities accused him of attempting to carry out what they described as a “stabbing attack.”

According to the statement, his detention was later extended for eight days.

The organizations also said that a lawyer representing Rayyan repeatedly sought updates on his medical condition after he appeared in a critical state during a video conference. The lawyer was later informed that he had lost consciousness and was placed on life-support equipment.

No further details were provided on the circumstances surrounding his death.
