Iran, Saudi Arabia Coordinate Talks as US-Iran Diplomacy Continues

(MENAFN) The foreign ministers of Abbas Araghchi and Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud held another phone conversation on Monday to discuss the latest developments in ongoing diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States, with Pakistan acting as a mediator.

According to Iranian state sources, the call marked the second contact between the two ministers within a 24-hour period, reflecting intensified regional diplomatic activity surrounding the negotiations.

The discussions come amid heightened tensions following earlier military escalations involving strikes attributed to the US and Israel against Iran in late February, which triggered a cycle of retaliatory actions across the region and increased strain in Gulf security dynamics, including disruptions affecting maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire was reportedly reached in early April through Pakistani mediation, although subsequent talks in Islamabad failed to secure a permanent settlement. The truce was later extended unilaterally by US President Donald Trump, though without a defined timeframe.

Iran has recently submitted its response to a US peace proposal via Pakistan, but Washington has rejected the proposal as insufficient, maintaining that it does not meet core conditions for ending the conflict.

The renewed engagement between Tehran and Riyadh highlights ongoing regional efforts to manage escalation risks and maintain diplomatic communication channels despite continued disagreements over security and nuclear-related issues.
