Iran, Saudi Arabia Discuss Pakistan-Mediated Talks with US
(MENAFN) The foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia held a telephone conversation on Monday to examine the most recent developments surrounding the ongoing Pakistan-brokered diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington.
According to a state news agency, the talks between Abbas Araghchi and Prince Faisal bin Farhan represented the second phone discussion conducted by the two officials within the last 24 hours.
Regional instability has intensified since the United States and Israel carried out strikes against Iran on Feb. 28, prompting retaliatory actions from Tehran targeting Israel and US partners in the Gulf, in addition to the shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire came into force on April 8 through mediation led by Pakistan, although negotiations held in Islamabad did not succeed in securing a permanent settlement. The truce was subsequently prolonged by US President Donald Trump without establishing a specific timeframe.
On Sunday, Iran delivered its reply to a US proposal aimed at ending the conflict through Pakistan, but Trump rejected it as "totally unacceptable."
