Explosion Hits Asylum Housing Site in Netherlands’s Den Bosch

(MENAFN) An explosion over the weekend caused damage to a building in the Dutch city of Den Bosch that is intended by local authorities to house asylum seekers, according to regional reports.

The incident occurred at a former police station located on De Beverspijken, an area situated between Engelen and Den Bosch, as stated by police. The site is part of a municipal plan to accommodate asylum seekers in the future.

Authorities later concluded that an explosive device had been used earlier in the weekend, resulting in damage to a window of the building. The damage was discovered after a passerby reported the incident to police on Sunday evening.

Following the alert, investigators deployed an explosives specialist to examine the scene. During the inspection, remnants believed to be fireworks along with a liquid substance were found near the site.

Police confirmed that evidence has been collected as part of an ongoing investigation into the cause and circumstances of the explosion.

The building, located within a business park, has been designated by the municipality to house approximately 50 unaccompanied minor asylum seekers, making the incident a matter of heightened local concern amid broader debates over asylum accommodation in the Netherlands.
