Two Syrians Killed in Southern Lebanon Drone Strike
(MENAFN) Two Syrian nationals were killed in a drone strike carried out in southern Lebanon on Sunday, according to reports from Lebanese media, in what is being described as another breach of an existing ceasefire arrangement.
The National News Agency (NNA) reported that the strike targeted a motorcycle traveling between the towns of Qlaileh and Deir Qanoun in the Tyre region, resulting in the deaths of the two individuals.
It was also stated that civil defense units were working in coordination with the Lebanese army to recover the bodies from the scene.
According to additional Lebanese media reporting, multiple Israeli air operations were conducted in the south of the country on the same day, with at least nine separate strikes recorded since early morning.
The ceasefire agreement, which has been in effect since April 17 and later extended into mid-May, has not halted ongoing military activity in the region, as exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah continue to be reported.
Reports further indicate that since March 2, Israeli operations in Lebanon have resulted in more than 2,700 deaths and the displacement of over one million people. Israeli forces are also said to maintain a buffer zone inside Lebanese territory.
Separately, diplomatic efforts remain ongoing, with US-mediated talks between the parties scheduled to take place in Washington on May 14–15, according to the same reports.
