Lebanon, Syria Report Progress in Damascus Talks on Bilateral Collaboration

(MENAFN) Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has said that “significant progress” was achieved on shared issues during high-level talks with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa in Damascus, according to reports.

Salam’s visit, which lasted one day, marked his second trip to Syria since taking office last year, following an earlier visit in April 2025. He met the Syrian president at the People’s Palace, where both sides were joined by ministerial delegations, as reported by Syrian state media.

Discussions reportedly focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, transportation, and economic coordination. The two sides also addressed security cooperation, with an emphasis on supporting stability and responding to regional challenges.

The Lebanese delegation included senior officials such as the deputy prime minister, as well as ministers responsible for energy, economy, public works, transport, and other portfolios.

Before departing Damascus, Salam told reporters that the talks produced meaningful advances in key sectors and suggested that concrete outcomes could emerge in the near future. He also indicated that both countries agreed on continued political consultations and closer institutional coordination, including the creation of joint committees and increased ministerial communication.

According to reports, Salam highlighted that the discussions also covered broader regional developments and the shared difficulties facing both Lebanon and Syria amid shifting geopolitical conditions.
