Boat Explosion Off Miami Wounds at Least Eleven

(MENAFN) At least 11 people sustained injuries Saturday after an explosion ripped through a charter vessel on Biscayne Bay near Miami, Florida, authorities confirmed.

The blast struck while the boat was carrying passengers near the popular Haulover Sandbar — a widely frequented tourist destination close to Miami Beach — according to Melissa Brevik, spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue disclosed that it logged a report of "a possible boat explosion" at 12:48 p.m. Eastern Time (1648 GMT) in the vicinity of the sandbar. First responders who reached the scene encountered multiple casualties requiring immediate care and transported the injured to area hospitals, the agency confirmed in an official statement.

The precise cause of the explosion remains undetermined. Authorities have launched a formal investigation.
