Israel Targets Oslo Accords Burial, Palestinian State Block

(MENAFN) An Israeli ministerial panel is set to convene Sunday to deliberate on legislation that would annul the Oslo Accords and formally foreclose the possibility of a Palestinian state, Hebrew-language media reported Saturday.

Israeli media reported that the Ministerial Committee for Legislation will take up the proposal, which seeks to void the landmark 1993 agreement concluded between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization.

The bill was introduced by Knesset Deputy Speaker Limor Son Har-Melech, who argued before Israeli media that the Oslo Accords had delivered "terror instead of peace" and called for what she framed as a "national correction."

"We promised to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state, and now it is time to encourage settlement in Areas A and B and cancel the disastrous Oslo Accords," Har-Melech wrote on X.

She characterized the proposed law as "a first and necessary step" toward rectifying the broader situation. Under the existing Oslo framework, Areas A and B of the occupied West Bank fall under varying degrees of Palestinian Authority administration.

Formally titled the "Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements," the Oslo Accords were signed in Washington on Sept. 13, 1993, in the presence of late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, and under the auspices of then-US President Bill Clinton.
