Leaders of GCC to Have Emergency Summit in Jeddah

(MENAFN) Leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are expected to meet in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday for an emergency consultative summit focused on rising regional tensions, according to reports from Gulf media.

The meeting is being convened to address escalating geopolitical developments and ongoing efforts to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran, including indirect negotiations reportedly facilitated through Pakistan.

According to reports, Kuwait News Agency stated that Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah has traveled to Saudi Arabia to represent Emir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the summit.

Regional outlets also indicated that the gathering may take place in a hybrid format, with some leaders potentially joining via videoconference rather than attending in person.

Discussions are expected to focus on recent regional security developments and their broader economic and political consequences, alongside diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and stability.

Participants are also likely to examine Pakistan’s mediation role in facilitating communication between Washington and Tehran, as well as potential risks linked to the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy shipping route. Maritime security concerns and implications for international trade are also expected to be part of the agenda.
