U.S. Forces Target Tanker Sailing Toward Iranian Port
(MENAFN) American forces struck and immobilized an Iranian-flagged oil tanker in international waters early Wednesday, preventing the unladen vessel from reaching its destination port, U.S. Central Command announced via X.
The operation was carried out at 9 a.m. Eastern Time, targeting the tanker Hasna as it transited the Gulf of Oman toward an Iranian port.
"After Hasna's crew failed to comply with repeated warnings, U.S. forces disabled the tanker's rudder by firing several rounds from the 20mm cannon gun of a U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet launched from USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72)," the statement read.
The Hasna did not continue toward Iran, Central Command confirmed, reiterating that its naval blockade preventing vessels from entering or departing Iranian ports remains fully operational.
The strike came a day after President Donald Trump declared on Truth Social that he had suspended the Pentagon's mission to escort commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, while keeping its blockade on Iranian ports "in full force and effect."
