US Secures Early AI Testing Access from Google, Microsoft, xAI

(MENAFN) Google DeepMind, Microsoft, and xAI have reached agreements with the US government that will allow early-stage access to their advanced artificial intelligence systems for national security evaluation, according to reports from the Commerce Department.

The department’s Center for AI Standards and Innovation said the collaboration is designed to enable testing and research before public release, helping officials better understand the capabilities of cutting-edge AI systems and identify potential security risks.

Under the agreements, US authorities will be able to assess models prior to deployment and also carry out evaluations after they are released to the public.

The center noted that it has already conducted more than 40 assessments, including examinations of advanced AI systems that have not yet been launched.

It also said developers often submit versions of models with reduced or removed safeguards, allowing for more thorough testing of possible national security-related risks and capabilities, according to reports.
