UN Reports Highest Post-Ceasefire Fire Exchanges in Southern Lebanon
(MENAFN) The United Nations said Tuesday that southern Lebanon has witnessed the most intense exchanges of fire since the cessation of hostilities, according to reports.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, citing the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL), said during a press briefing that “yesterday saw the highest number of exchanges of fire between the Israeli Defense Forces and armed groups, including Hezbollah, and that was the highest number inside Lebanon since the cessation of hostilities.”
He added that UNIFIL documented significant activity on April 17, including 619 launches by Israeli forces that impacted Lebanese territory, alongside “30 launches towards Israeli targets.”
On the humanitarian situation, Dujarric said UN agencies and partners continue providing assistance where conditions allow. He also emphasized the importance of financial aid, stating that “cash assistance remains a critical lifeline for people,” according to reports.
