UAE Reports Second Straight Day of Missile, Drone Attack from Iran
(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates reported Tuesday that it came under a new wave of missile and drone attacks originating from Iran, marking the second straight day of strikes targeting the Gulf nation, according to reports.
In a statement, the UAE Defense Ministry said its air defense systems were actively intercepting incoming threats, including ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles launched from Iran. It added that explosions heard across different parts of the country were the result of interceptions carried out by air defense operations.
On Monday, the UAE had already reported multiple waves of missile and drone attacks, which it said led to a significant fire at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, a major energy facility on the country’s eastern coast.
The escalation comes amid broader regional tensions that intensified after US and Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, which triggered retaliatory actions by Tehran against Israel and US-aligned Gulf states, alongside disruptions in maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire was introduced on April 8 through mediation efforts from Pakistan, though subsequent talks held in Islamabad failed to secure a lasting agreement. The truce was later extended by US President Donald Trump without a fixed timeline, according to reports.
Since April 13, the United States has also maintained a naval blockade aimed at restricting Iranian maritime activity in the Strait of Hormuz.
