Iran’s Parliament Speaker Says New Dynamics Emerge in Strait of Hormuz
(MENAFN) Iran’s parliament speaker has said that a “new equation in the Strait of Hormuz is taking shape” as tensions continue to rise in the strategic maritime corridor, according to reports.
Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf wrote on the US social media platform X that the security of shipping and energy transit has been undermined, accusing the United States and its allies of violating the ceasefire and imposing what he described as a blockade.
He stated that “the security of shipping and energy transit has been endangered by the United States and its allies through violating the ceasefire and imposing a blockade; however, their evil will diminish.”
Qalibaf also claimed that “the continuation of the current situation is unbearable for the United States.”
The remarks come amid heightened regional instability following the outbreak of hostilities after US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, which triggered retaliatory actions from Tehran against Israel and US-aligned interests in the Gulf region, alongside disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire was reached on April 8 through mediation efforts led by Pakistan, although subsequent talks held in Islamabad reportedly failed to produce a lasting agreement. The truce was later extended by US President Donald Trump without a defined end date.
Since April 13, the United States has reportedly enforced a naval blockade targeting Iranian maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, further intensifying tensions in one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.
