Explosion at Fireworks Factory in China Leaves Dozens Dead, Injured
(MENAFN) A powerful explosion at a fireworks manufacturing facility in central China has killed at least 21 people and injured 61 others, according to reports.
The blast occurred on Monday afternoon at a site operated by Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Company in Liuyang, a county-level city under Changsha in Hunan province, as reported by state media.
Emergency response teams were deployed shortly after the explosion, with authorities dispatching more than 480 personnel organized into five rescue groups. Specialized rescue robots were also used in the operation.
Officials said the explosion site was located near two warehouses storing black powder, raising concerns about possible secondary detonations. As a precaution, nearby residents were evacuated and a safety buffer zone was established around the area.
By early Tuesday, rescue teams had completed an initial search operation, confirming the death toll and transferring injured victims to hospitals for treatment.
Authorities stated that a second phase of search and recovery operations is still underway as investigations continue into the cause of the explosion.
