U.S. Military Kills Two in Attack on Caribbean Drug-Trafficking
(MENAFN) The US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) confirmed Monday it conducted a lethal strike on a vessel connected to narcotics trafficking in the Caribbean Sea, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.
The operation was executed under the authority of SOUTHCOM Commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, according to an official statement released by the command.
SOUTHCOM said the "Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations." Intelligence assessments had confirmed the vessel was traveling along "known narco-trafficking routes" and "engaged in narco-trafficking operations" at the time of the strike.
"Two male narco-terrorists were killed during this action. No US military forces were harmed," the statement also noted.
The command offered no additional information regarding the precise geographic location of the strike, the identities of the two men killed, or the nature of the vessel that was targeted.
