Iran Rejects US Claims Over Vessel Movement in Strait of Hormuz
(MENAFN) Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has denied US reports regarding vessel traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that no commercial ships or oil tankers passed through the waterway in recent hours, according to Iranian state media.
The IRGC, as cited by IRNA, described US statements about maritime movements as inaccurate, calling them “baseless and false.” It also warned that any shipping activity not complying with regulations set by Iranian naval authorities could face serious consequences, including interception.
These remarks came in response to claims by US Central Command (CENTCOM), which said that two US-flagged commercial vessels had successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM also reported that US Navy guided-missile destroyers are currently deployed in the Gulf after transiting the strait as part of an operation referred to as “Project Freedom,” aimed at supporting the flow of commercial shipping through the region.
In statements shared on social media, US military officials said the vessels completed their passage safely and continued their journeys without incident.
The conflicting accounts highlight ongoing tensions surrounding maritime activity in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route where security conditions remain highly sensitive, according to reports.
