UAE Says It Faces Fourth Wave of Iranian Missile, Drone Attacks
(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates said on Monday evening that it had faced a fourth wave of missiles and drones launched from Iran, marking the first such incidents since a ceasefire between Tehran and Washington came into effect last month.
In a series of statements, the UAE Defense Ministry said its air defense systems were actively intercepting incoming ballistic and cruise missiles, along with unmanned aerial vehicles targeting Emirati territory.
It added that sounds heard in different parts of the country were linked to air defense operations engaging incoming threats.
No immediate casualties or significant damage were reported.
Earlier in the day, a major fire broke out at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, a major energy facility on the UAE’s eastern coast, after it was struck by a drone reportedly launched from Iran.
Local authorities in Fujairah said three Indian nationals sustained moderate injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
The incidents come amid heightened regional tensions following strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran on Feb. 28, which prompted retaliatory actions by Tehran targeting Israel and US partners in the Gulf, as well as disruptions to maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire was reached on April 8 through mediation efforts led by Pakistan, though subsequent talks in Islamabad failed to secure a lasting agreement. The truce was later extended by US President Donald Trump without a fixed timeline.
