Turkey Sees Further Rise in Inflation as Price Pressures Continue


(MENAFN) Türkiye’s annual inflation rate rose to 32.37% in April, increasing from 30.87% in the previous month, according to official figures published on Monday.

The Turkish Statistical Institute reported that the consumer price index (CPI) grew by 4.18% on a monthly basis in April. Compared with December 2025, prices were up by 14.64%.

Market expectations were lower, with a recent survey estimating annual inflation at 31.11% and monthly inflation at 3.19%.

Among key spending categories, food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded a year-on-year increase of 34.55% in April, making a significant contribution to overall inflation. Transport costs also climbed 35.06% annually, while the housing category—which includes water, electricity, gas, and other utilities—saw the sharpest rise at 46.60%.

On a contribution basis, food added 8.72 percentage points to the annual inflation rate, transport contributed 5.66 points, and housing accounted for 6.30 points.

Looking at monthly changes, food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 3.70%, while transport increased by 4.29%. Housing-related expenses recorded the steepest monthly jump at 7.99%.

In comparison, consumer prices in April 2025 had increased by 3% month-on-month and 37.86% annually. A year earlier, in April 2024, monthly inflation stood at 3.18% while the annual rate was significantly higher at 69.80%.
