Spanish PM Aircraft Diverts to Ankara After Technical Issue During Flight

(MENAFN) The aircraft carrying Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez makes an emergency landing in Ankara after a technical issue occurs during a flight from Madrid to Yerevan, according to reports.

A Spanish official news agency reports, citing government sources, that the Airbus A310 is forced to divert to Türkiye while en route to a European Political Community meeting in Armenia.

The technical problem is described as minor, but standard safety procedures are followed as the plane lands in Ankara.

Sanchez is expected to remain in the Turkish capital overnight before continuing his journey to Yerevan the following morning, as stated by reports.

This is not the first time the Spanish prime minister experiences a travel disruption, as a previous incident in September 2025 also forces him to miss an international meeting on Ukraine after his aircraft returns to Madrid due to a technical fault, leading him to participate virtually instead.
