Israeli Strikes on Lebanon Kill Twenty in Last 24 Hours

(MENAFN) Israeli attacks have claimed 20 more lives across Lebanon in a single 24-hour period, pushing the country's cumulative death toll to 2,679 since the conflict escalated on March 2, the Lebanese Health Ministry announced Sunday.

The ministry's statement also recorded 46 fresh injuries over the same period, bringing the total number of wounded to 8,229 since hostilities intensified — stark figures that underscore the mounting human cost of an offensive that shows no sign of abating despite an active ceasefire agreement.

The latest strikes represent further violations of a temporary ceasefire that has been repeatedly breached since its announcement on April 17, when US President Donald Trump brokered the initial 10-day truce between Israel and Lebanon. Trump subsequently extended the pause by three weeks, pushing the ceasefire deadline to May 17.

The assault was triggered by a cross-border strike by Hezbollah on March 2, after which the Israeli military sharply escalated both its aerial bombardment and ground operations inside Lebanese territory. The sustained offensive has since uprooted more than 1.6 million people, according to official Lebanese government figures — one of the largest displacement crises the country has endured.
