Syria, Egypt Hold First High-Level Talks During Official Visit to Cairo
(MENAFN) Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani meets his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in Cairo on Sunday during his first official visit to Egypt, according to reports.
The discussions focus on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding cooperation between the two countries, and reviewing key regional and international developments, as stated by reports.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry says the talks also address coordination on current regional issues and ways to enhance diplomatic alignment.
Abdelatty highlights what he describes as the deep historical and cultural bonds linking the two nations, noting that these shared ties reflect a long-standing connection between the peoples of Egypt and Syria.
“This shared heritage embodies the convergence of the will of the two brotherly peoples throughout history," he said.
He also reaffirms Egypt’s support for what he calls the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people, while stressing respect for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, stability, and territorial integrity.
“Since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, Egypt’s position has been based on clear principles stemming from a sincere desire to support efforts aimed at restoring security and stability, and preserving Syria's unity and the cohesion of its national fabric," he said.
Abdelatty further calls for safeguarding Syria’s national institutions and rejecting external interference, emphasizing the importance of allowing Syrians to pursue internal stability and national cohesion, according to reports.
