US Says Dozens of Vessels Redirected Under Iran Maritime Blockade
(MENAFN) The United States says it has now redirected 49 commercial vessels attempting to enter or leave Iranian ports as part of its ongoing maritime enforcement operation, according to reports.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) states that enforcement efforts remain active and fully in effect as part of the blockade targeting Iranian shipping activity.
“As of today, 49 commercial vessels have been redirected to comply with blockade. U.S. forces remain fully committed to total enforcement,” CENTCOM said on US social media company X.
The latest figure marks a slight increase from earlier reports that indicated 48 vessels had been redirected.
In a related development, CENTCOM chief Adm. Brad Cooper visits the guided missile destroyer USS Milius, which is currently deployed as part of the broader operation, according to reports.
The naval blockade has been in place since mid-April, targeting maritime traffic linked to Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. The move follows restrictions on shipping in the waterway amid the wider conflict that began in February and has since entered a pause phase, as stated by reports.
