Death Toll in Lebanon Surpasses 2,600

(MENAFN) The Lebanese Health Ministry reported on Saturday that the number of people killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2 has climbed to 2,659, while 8,183 individuals have sustained injuries.

In a separate update, the ministry stated that within the last 24 hours alone, 41 people lost their lives and 11 others were wounded due to Israeli air raids.

The escalation began after Israel initiated its military campaign in Lebanon following Hezbollah’s response connected to the Iran war. In addition to the rising casualties, the ongoing strikes have forced more than one million people to flee their homes.

A 10-day ceasefire that started on April 17 was later prolonged until mid-May; however, Israel has continued to breach it daily through aerial attacks and the destruction of residential buildings.

Israel also continues to enforce what it calls a “buffer zone” in southern Lebanon, claiming it is intended to stop Hezbollah from launching attacks. An earlier ceasefire agreement in Lebanon had been established in November 2024.
