Military Tribunal Launches Inquiry into Terror Attacks in Mali
(MENAFN) The public prosecutor of the Bamako Military Tribunal declared on Friday that an official investigation has been initiated into the terrorist assaults carried out on April 25 in Mali.
Early conclusions reportedly suggest the suspected participation of both current and former members of the armed forces, alongside certain political individuals, in the orchestration and implementation of the attacks.
The coordinated strikes were directed at multiple installations belonging to the Malian Defense and Security Forces, affecting locations in Bamako and Kati, in addition to the private residence of the Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Sadio Camara.
In an official communiqué, the prosecutor stated: “The investigations carried out have, at this stage, established a body of solid evidence relating to the complicity of certain military personnel, dismissed soldiers, or those pending dismissal, notably their participation in the planning, coordination, and execution of the attacks,”
The same statement also pointed to political links in the case, noting: “notable involvement of certain political figures, including Doctor Oumar Mariko.”
Authorities further reported that investigative work confirmed the role of Alassane Diallo, also known as Abedi—a discharged soldier who was killed during clashes connected to the Kati assault. Several other individuals have been identified as alleged co-perpetrators or collaborators, including both active-duty and retired military personnel.
