US Greenlights Arms Deals with Qatar, Kuwait, UAE

(MENAFN) The United States Department of State has approved a series of potential military sales to Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates, according to reports released Friday.

Officials said the packages include Patriot air and missile defense replenishment services and related equipment for Qatar, valued at approximately $4.01 billion.

The department also approved the possible sale of the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) to Qatar for about $992 million, as well as a separate APKWS package for the UAE worth roughly $147.6 million.

In addition, Washington green-lighted a potential $2.5 billion deal to supply Kuwait with the Integrated Battle Command System, designed to improve air and missile defense coordination.

The announcements come amid heightened regional tensions following the outbreak of hostilities involving the US and Israel against Iran on Feb. 28, which led to retaliatory actions across the Gulf and contributed to disruptions in maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports.
