Employee Welfare A Priority: CM

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday inaugurated 368 newly constructed residential quarters for government employees at Sempora in Pampore, describing the project as a significant step toward strengthening staff welfare and addressing long-standing accommodation constraints in the Kashmir Valley.

Developed by the Estates Department at an estimated cost of ₹90.65 crore, the housing complex comprises 23 blocks with a mix of 2BHK and 3BHK units, alongside essential facilities including a canteen and mess. The Chief Minister inspected the flats and reviewed the amenities during his visit, while officials briefed him on ongoing and proposed housing projects across Jammu and Kashmir.

With its completion, the project is expected to substantially augment the availability of government accommodation and reduce dependence on private housing, particularly for employees affected by frequent transfers. The initiative assumes added importance in the backdrop of the restoration of the annual Darbar Move, which has revived the demand for adequate residential facilities for staff relocating between Jammu and Srinagar.

Officials said the new quarters would benefit a large number of Darbar Move employees who have, over the years, struggled to secure suitable housing for their families. The availability of dedicated residential units is expected to provide greater stability, improve living conditions, and enhance overall work efficiency.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister reiterated that employee welfare remains a core priority of his government. He underlined that access to quality residential accommodation directly impacts productivity and morale, and said efforts are underway to expand such infrastructure in a phased manner across the Union Territory.

Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Pampore Hasnain Masoodi, Additional Chief Secretary Estates Shaleen Kabra, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Basharat Qayoom, Director Estates Ashwini Khajuria, senior officers, engineers and other officials were present on the occasion.
