McConnell Warns of Delays in Approved US Aid to Ukraine
(MENAFN) US Senator Mitch McConnell has expressed concern over delays in the delivery of congressionally approved military assistance to Ukraine, arguing that key aid packages are not reaching Kyiv despite bipartisan backing in Congress.
In an opinion piece published in a newspaper, McConnell rejected suggestions that US public support for aiding Ukraine is weakening, stating that opinion data has consistently shown Americans favor continued assistance in Ukraine’s defense against Russia.
The Kentucky Republican pointed to legislative actions taken last year, noting that Republican-led armed services committees authorized $400 million annually for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative over a two-year period. He also said that appropriators fully funded the program for fiscal year 2026 with broad bipartisan support.
However, McConnell argued that despite this approval, the funds have not yet been put into use.
That aid, he wrote, “is now collecting dust” at the Department of Defense, adding that lawmakers have not received clear explanations from Pentagon officials regarding the delays.
His remarks highlight ongoing tensions in Washington over the implementation of Ukraine-related military assistance and broader questions about the pace of US support.
