Ex-Mossad Chief Warns Settler Violence in West Bank Mirrors Historical Atrocities
(MENAFN) Former Mossad chief Tamir Pardo has said that violence carried out by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank resembles attacks against Jews during the Holocaust and represents what he described as an “existential threat” to Israel, according to reports.
The West Bank, where Israeli settlers live in established communities, was captured by Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War. Palestinians claim the territory as part of a future independent state, while successive Israeli governments have supported or tolerated settlement expansion for a mix of security, political, and religious reasons.
Pardo made the remarks during a visit to Palestinian villages that have recently experienced a rise in settler-related violence, speaking to local media on Monday.
“My mother was a Holocaust survivor, and what I saw reminded me of the events that happened against Jews in the last century,” Pardo said. “What I saw today made me feel ashamed to be Jewish.”
His comments come amid reports of increasing violence in the West Bank, where witnesses and human rights groups say settlers have carried out repeated attacks on Palestinian communities, including burning homes and vehicles, damaging property, and assaulting residents.
In one of the latest reported incidents, two Palestinians—including a 14-year-old student—were killed last week after gunmen opened fire near a school, according to local accounts.
