Zakat Fund Scandal Uncovered: Millions Disbursed To Government Staff Instead Of Deserving People

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) A large-scale financial irregularity and embezzlement has been revealed in the Zakat Fund of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where funds allocated for deserving people were reportedly distributed among government employees.

According to the audit report, government employees from Grade 1 to 17 were found involved in the misuse of the Zakat Fund. The report states that 317 federal government employees and 33 employees of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government received money from the Zakat Fund.

It further mentions that 6 employees from Punjab, 5 from Sindh, and 3 from Balochistan were also part of these illegal payments. In total, 419 government employees received more than 5.3 million rupees from the Zakat Fund.

The audit report revealed that 15 employees received 30,000 rupees each, while 404 employees received 12,000 rupees each as subsistence allowance. These include 2 employees of Grade 17, 2 of Grade 16, 13 of Grade 15, 9 of Grade 14, 2 of Grade 13, and 20 of Grade 12.

Further details show that 60 employees of Grade 1, 56 of Grade 2, 63 of Grade 5, and 50 of Grade 6 also received 12,000 rupees each. The report states that both serving and retired employees were not eligible for subsistence allowance, yet payments were made to them.

It was also revealed that government employees were unlawfully included in District and Local Zakat Committees, which is a clear violation of the Zakat Act.

These 111 government employees, serving as committee members, were paid 19.5 million rupees in allowances.

Similarly, irregular payments of 19.7 million rupees were made under subsistence allowance to ineligible individuals, while 42 million rupees in irregularities were also reported in the marriage assistance program.

The Auditor General has directed that all illegally paid amounts be recovered from government employees and strict action be taken against the involved Zakat committee members.
