China Warns Against Marginalizing Palestinian Issue
(MENAFN) China has warned that the Palestinian question must not be sidelined under any circumstances, stressing that it remains central to resolving broader tensions in the Middle East.
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday, Chinese envoy Fu Cong said the Palestinian issue “is, and always will be, the core of the Middle East issue.”
He noted that recent months have seen a significant escalation in regional tensions, describing the situation as having “dramatically” worsened with wide-reaching consequences that, according to him, are affecting regional stability as well as global economic and energy security.
Fu called on all parties involved to take advantage of what he described as a “window of peace,” urging restraint, political sincerity, and continued commitment to negotiations aimed at achieving a lasting settlement. He also warned against any steps that could undermine ongoing ceasefire efforts or further destabilize the region, including the Gulf.
He further stated that conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories continue to deteriorate, warning that the foundations of a two-state solution are at risk of being “completely hollowed out.” He emphasized that conflict and instability are not, in his words, “the fate” of the Palestinian people.
Fu also urged the international community to act with urgency to reverse what he described as a worsening trajectory, calling for renewed efforts to address what he characterized as a long-standing historical injustice.
