France Denounces Attacks on EU- French-Funded Projects in West Bank
(MENAFN) France has strongly criticized recent incidents in the occupied West Bank, accusing Israeli settlers of targeting infrastructure projects financed by European and French support, and calling for accountability and an end to rising violence, according to reports.
In a statement, French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux condemned what he described as the “attack, occupation, and vandalization” of a wastewater treatment facility in Tayasir, located in the northern West Bank.
He noted that the plant was jointly funded by the French Development Agency and the European Union, with a total investment of €18.2 million (about $21.2 million).
Confavreux said the incident also resulted in the death of a Palestinian and urged Israeli authorities to identify those responsible, remove them from the area, and bring them to justice.
France further condemned the destruction of a school reportedly demolished using heavy machinery, stating that the facility had also been co-financed through French assistance via the West Bank Protection Consortium. Officials called for compensation for the damage caused and stressed the need to protect civilian infrastructure.
The statement added that such actions contribute to heightened tensions in the region and urged authorities to prevent further escalation.
