Romanian Opposition to Table Censure Motion Against Government

(MENAFN) Romania’s Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) announced on Monday that they will jointly file a motion of censure targeting the government headed by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, according to reports from a news agency.

The initiative was reportedly approved unanimously by PSD leadership, signaling a deepening political confrontation after the Social Democrats withdrew from the governing coalition.

PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu described the move as a formal parliamentary effort to bring down the current government, while making clear that his party would not enter any governing arrangement with AUR if the motion succeeds.

"I brought it to the attention of colleagues, not only in the office, but also all the PSD branch presidents, the decision was whether or not to sign this motion, this parliamentary initiative. It is normal for us to have a political decision," Grindeanu told reporters.

According to reports, relations between the former coalition partners have deteriorated rapidly, with PSD distancing itself from the administration and several of its ministers resigning in recent days.

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan criticized the opposition move, accusing PSD of undermining political stability without offering a clear alternative plan for governance.
