Azerbaijan, Czech Republic Hold Talks on Joint Arms Production
(MENAFN) Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic are currently in talks over possible joint production of military equipment, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on Monday.
According to the Azerbaijani presidential press service, Aliyev made the remarks during a meeting with Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis in the northern city of Gabala. The two leaders later held a joint press conference outlining areas of cooperation between the countries.
Aliyev said defense industry cooperation remains a central pillar of relations, noting ongoing collaboration between the two sides. He stated:
“We purchase many military products from the Czech Republic, and at the current stage, negotiations are underway on specific projects related to joint production.”
The Azerbaijani president also highlighted expanding ties in the energy sector, describing the Czech Republic and Azerbaijan as long-standing partners.
“Azerbaijani oil is exported to the Czech Republic and occupies an important place in the Czech Republic’s energy balance.”
He further emphasized Azerbaijan’s role as a regional energy supplier, saying the country exports oil and gas to multiple international markets.
“In addition, Azerbaijan exports natural gas to countries neighboring the Czech Republic.”
Aliyev also pointed to rising economic ties between the two nations, stating that bilateral trade has grown significantly to more than $800 million, with expectations of further expansion in the future.
