Syria Says It Has Foiled Sabotage Plot in Homs
(MENAFN) Syrian authorities announced on Monday that security forces had broken up what they described as a “terrorist cell” allegedly planning sabotage activities in the western province of Homs, according to reports.
The Interior Ministry said the operation was carried out by internal security units in coordination with the General Intelligence Service, adding that the plot was aimed at undermining security and stability in the region.
According to a ministry statement, the operation followed what it described as “precise intelligence efforts,” which led security forces to raid a location where members of the cell were believed to be hiding.
The ministry said: “The operation came as a result of precise intelligence efforts,” and added that specialized units successfully targeted the site during the raid.
It further reported that two individuals were “neutralized” during the operation and that security forces gained full control of the area.
Authorities also said a significant stockpile of weapons was discovered and seized, including anti-tank missile launchers, sniper rifles, automatic weapons, RPG launchers, ammunition, and explosives.
The Interior Ministry said the raid is part of ongoing operations aimed at dismantling sleeper cells and preventing what it described as terrorist threats, while reaffirming the state’s readiness to respond to any risks to public safety and national security.
The announcement comes as Syria’s new administration continues efforts to tighten security control across the country, as part of broader attempts to stabilize and rebuild after years of conflict.
