Northern Israel Suspends Schools, Bus Services Amid Hezbollah Rocket Fire
(MENAFN) Authorities in northern Israel have announced the suspension of school activities and bus services starting Tuesday, following continued rocket fire attributed to Hezbollah from Lebanon, according to reports.
An Israeli public broadcaster stated that local council leaders in several Israeli settlements made the decision as a precautionary step, describing it as “a necessary measure to protect students amid a deteriorating security condition.”
Officials have not yet clarified how long the suspension will remain in place, leaving the timeline open-ended depending on developments along the border.
The move comes amid ongoing instability despite a ceasefire that was declared between Lebanon and Israel on April 17. However, the truce has reportedly faced repeated violations by Tel Aviv, according to reports.
On Thursday, US President Donald Trump said that both Lebanon and Israel had agreed to extend the ceasefire by an additional three weeks.
Hezbollah has continued to conduct drone operations targeting Israeli military positions in northern Israel and southern Lebanon, stating that these actions are in response to repeated breaches of the ceasefire agreement.
Meanwhile, Lebanese official figures indicate a severe humanitarian toll, reporting that more than 2,500 people have been killed and over 1.6 million displaced as a result of Israeli strikes across Lebanon since March 2.
