Iranian FM Heads to Russia After Pakistan Talks on US Conflict
(MENAFN) Iran’s foreign minister has traveled to Russia for high-level discussions on regional and international developments, following a previous stop in Islamabad where he engaged in talks related to efforts to resolve the ongoing dispute with the United States, according to reports citing Iranian state media.
Upon arriving in the Russian city of St. Petersburg, Abbas Araghchi said in a statement that his visit would allow him to consult with Russian officials on the latest regional and global shifts, as reported by state media outlets.
During his time in Russia, the foreign minister is also expected to head to Moscow, where he will hold meetings with senior officials, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, as part of his official agenda.
Reflecting on his earlier stop in Pakistan, Araghchi described the discussions there as “successful” and said the situation surrounding negotiations with the US was reviewed in detail during his visit.
He further stated:
"In any case, 40 days of heroic resistance by the Iranian people should ensure that we are able to secure the rights of the Iranian people and provide for the country’s interests."
The diplomat also pointed out that the negotiation process had undergone shifts, arguing that what he described as flawed approaches and excessive demands from the US had prevented earlier talks from reaching a conclusion, despite some progress being made.
He added that these developments made it necessary to reassess the situation with Pakistan, which he referred to as a key regional partner in consultations on the matter.
