Syria Says It Foiled Sabotage Plot, Dismantled Armed Cell in Homs

(MENAFN) Syrian security forces have dismantled what authorities described as a “terrorist cell” allegedly planning sabotage operations in the western province of Homs, according to a statement from the Interior Ministry.

The ministry said the plot, which was aimed at undermining security and stability in the region, was uncovered through intelligence work carried out in coordination with internal security units and the General Intelligence Service.

Authorities stated that specialized forces conducted a raid on a location where the suspects were believed to be hiding, based on what it called “precise intelligence efforts.”

During the operation, two individuals were killed and the site was brought under full control, the ministry said.

Security forces also confiscated a range of weapons, including anti-tank missile systems, sniper rifles, automatic weapons, RPG launchers, ammunition, and explosive devices.

Officials described the operation as part of broader efforts to dismantle sleeper cells and disrupt networks considered a threat to public safety. They added that security forces remain on alert to address any potential risks to national stability.

The statement also indicated that Syria’s authorities are continuing wider security campaigns aimed at consolidating control and improving stability after years of conflict, as part of ongoing reconstruction and recovery efforts.
