Russian Delegation Visits North Korean for War Memorial Museum Opening
(MENAFN) A Russian parliamentary delegation has arrived in Pyongyang to take part in the opening of a memorial museum dedicated to soldiers who were killed while fighting for Russia in the war in Ukraine, according to reports citing North Korean state media.
The delegation is led by Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament, who arrived on Saturday and was received by Jo Yong-won, chairman of North Korea’s Supreme People’s Assembly.
North Korea is preparing to inaugurate the Memorial Museum of Combat Feats at the Overseas Military Operations in Pyongyang, which is set to honour those who died in external military engagements, as stated in the reports.
During the visit, Jo Yong-won and Volodin reportedly held discussions focused on strengthening parliamentary exchanges and expanding bilateral cooperation. Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to implementing previously agreed-upon agreements between their leaderships.
Over the past decade, Russia and North Korea have significantly deepened their ties, culminating in a strategic partnership formalised in a 2024 treaty. That agreement reportedly includes provisions for mutual military assistance in the event either country faces an attack from a third party.
According to reports, cooperation has also extended to military-related support on the ground. In August 2025, North Korea is said to have dispatched around 1,000 military engineers to Russia’s Kursk region to assist with demining operations following fighting involving Ukrainian forces.
