Engine Fire Forces Emergency Stop of Swiss Flight at Delhi Airport

(MENAFN) Several passengers were injured early Sunday after a Swiss International Airlines flight aborted its takeoff when one of its engines caught fire at Delhi’s main international airport, according to reports.

The incident occurred on a runway at Indira Gandhi International Airport during a scheduled departure from Delhi to Zurich. Airport authorities said the aircraft was forced to halt takeoff procedures around 1:08 a.m. local time after the fire was detected.

All passengers were immediately evacuated from the plane. Officials confirmed that six individuals sustained injuries during the emergency evacuation and were later taken to a private hospital for treatment.

A full emergency response was activated at the airport following the incident, with aviation authorities coordinating the response and safety procedures.

The aircraft involved was identified as an Airbus A330 carrying more than 230 people, including infants. Airline officials stated that the crew made the decision to reject takeoff after the engine issue was identified and proceeded with an evacuation as a precaution after assessing the situation. A dedicated response team has since been formed to investigate the incident.

No further details on the cause of the engine fire have been released at this stage.
