Netanyahu Issues Order to Strike Hezbollah Target in Lebanon
(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has directed the country's military to launch strikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, according to a report published Saturday by Israeli media.
The directive was issued in response to what Netanyahu's office characterized as 'numerous ceasefire violations' by the Lebanese militant group. The prime minister reportedly instructed the armed forces to act 'forcefully,' the report added.
The order lands at a particularly sensitive moment, with a fragile ceasefire currently in effect between Israel and Lebanon. On April 17, US President Donald Trump announced a 10-day truce between the two sides, a pause he subsequently extended by three weeks.
Despite the ceasefire framework, the conflict has continued to claim lives. Since March 2, Israeli violations of the truce have resulted in 2,496 deaths and 7,725 injuries, while Hezbollah has responded by launching strikes against Israeli military positions in southern Lebanon and targeting Israeli civilian communities.
