Trump, First Lady Evacuated from Correspondents' Dinner Mid-Event

(MENAFN) President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were rushed out of the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night after a security incident disrupted the high-profile annual event at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC.

Secret Service agents escorted Trump along with senior administration officials seated at the head table off the premises as a precautionary measure, while the remaining guests were kept inside the ballroom. Both the president and Vice President JD Vance were subsequently confirmed to be "safe and secure."

Eyewitnesses described a scene of sudden panic as unidentified sounds sent attendees diving for cover.

"We were sitting here, and we just heard a loud 'pop, pop, pop.' Everybody just went under the table, and we didn't know what was happening," a broadcaster quoted its White House correspondent Kellie Meyer as saying.

The head table was cleared from the stage amid the security response as other guests held their positions inside the venue. Meyer also reported witnessing Cabinet members being led out of the building by security personnel.

The precise nature of the incident and whether any injuries had occurred remained unclear in the immediate aftermath. Event host Weija Jiang later took to the stage to inform attendees that the evening's program would continue at a rescheduled time.

Further details were not immediately available.
