Zelenskyy Meets Azerbaijan’s President During South Caucasus Visit
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks on Saturday with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during an official visit to the South Caucasus nation, according to reports.
“Important negotiations. Mutual respect and cooperation that strengthen both our nations,” Zelenskyy wrote on the social media platform X, where he also shared an image of the two leaders greeting each other.
As part of his trip, Zelenskyy noted that he first met with a group of specialists “which is sharing Ukraine’s experience in protecting the skies.” He emphasized Kyiv’s willingness to collaborate internationally, stating: “Ukraine is always committed to cooperation that strengthens both our partners and us. We have unique security expertise that can benefit other nations.” He further explained that Ukraine’s current diplomatic focus spans three main areas: the Middle East and Gulf region, the European Union, and ties with Azerbaijan.
He added: “In addition to security, we will work today to strengthen cooperation in energy, the economy and the humanitarian track.”
Separately, Azerbaijan’s presidential press office indicated that the two leaders held a private meeting in Gabala, followed by broader discussions involving their respective delegations, as stated by reports.
The meeting comes shortly after Zelenskyy’s visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Zelenskyy also said on X that a “strategic security arrangement” between Ukraine and Azerbaijan is being "actively" developed across three key areas: the export of Ukrainian security expertise and capabilities in air defense, energy cooperation and food security.
