Australia Expands Diesel Stockpile to Strengthen Fuel Security
(MENAFN) Australia announced on Friday that it has obtained an additional 100 million liters (roughly 628,000 barrels) of diesel fuel as part of its strategy to safeguard national fuel availability against international market instability caused by the continuing conflict in the Middle East.
The authorities stated that around 50 million liters of this supply will be allocated to regional areas in Queensland, specifically including Townsville, Gladstone, and Mackay. “The government is directing diesel to where it is needed most, ensuring that all Australians, including those in regional and rural areas, get the fuel they need,” Trade Minister Don Farrell and Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen said in a joint statement.
This latest fuel acquisition was arranged through cooperation with Ampol, BP Australia, and Viva Energy, contributing to a broader total of approximately 400 million liters of additional diesel secured within the past week.
Farrell explained that this extra supply was made possible through the government’s newly implemented Strategic Reserve powers.
“Approximately 400 million liters of additional fuel have now been secured as a direct result of the Albanese government’s new Strategic Reserve powers, getting more fuel where it is needed across Australia,” he said.
