Israeli Airstrike Kills Two in Southern Lebanon Despite Ceasefire
(MENAFN) Two people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a town in southern Lebanon early Friday, even as a ceasefire remained in place, according to the country’s Health Ministry.
As stated by reports, the ministry, citing a news agency, said the strike hit the town of Touline in the Marjayoun district, resulting in two deaths.
Earlier developments reported by the news agency indicated that Israeli aircraft targeted a residential building in Touline, followed by artillery shelling in the surrounding area. Additional strikes were also reported in the nearby town of Kherbet Selm.
The incident occurred just hours after US President Donald Trump announced that the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon had been extended by three weeks following talks held at the White House involving ambassador-level officials. The US-mediated truce, which began on April 16, had initially been scheduled to expire on Sunday.
According to Lebanese authorities, expanded Israeli military operations since March 2 have resulted in more than 2,200 deaths and the displacement of over one million people.
