Indonesian UN Troop Dies After Lebanon Base Explosion

(MENAFN) An Indonesian member of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon has died after being wounded in an explosion at a base in the country’s south, according to statements released on Friday. Corporal Rico Pramudia, 31, had been critically injured in what was described as a “projectile explosion” at a UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) site in Adchit al-Qusayr on the night of March 29. He later passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital in Beirut.

“UNIFIL deplores the passing today of Corporal Rico Pramudia,” the mission said in a statement.

The peacekeeping force, without identifying those responsible, urged all parties to uphold their duties under international law and to guarantee the protection of UN staff and facilities.

“Deliberate attacks on peacekeepers are grave violations of international humanitarian law and of Security Council resolution 1701 and may amount to war crimes,” the statement said.

According to reports, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric conveyed that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was “deeply saddened” by the death of the 31-year-old peacekeeper.
